Lauren is a native of East Tennessee. She attended Carson-Newman College, where she earned a degree in Child and Family Studies and a Secondary Education teaching license.

At Carson-Newman, she discovered the Kanakuk world, and gradually became a full-time Missouri resident.  Lauren worked at K-7 for four years before moving over to K-2.

Lauren was a student at the Kanakuk Institute in 2005-2006 and began working for the Institute after completing the program.  She married Jared Kolter on Nov. 17, 2007.
